About Washington Headquarters Services
Instead of Washington Headquarters Services, WHS should stand for Whatever the Heck Services. This Department of Defense field activity manages DoD-wide programs and operations for the Pentagon and other facilities in the National Capital Region (which includes the National Mall and surrounding monumental parks). It provides a myriad of administrative and operational services including acquisition and procurement, facilities management, general counsel, human resources, IT support, and even Pentagon renovation and construction. Established in 1977, WHS employs about 1,200 civilian and military personnel and thousands of contract staff.
