Summary

Seeking qualified Veterinary Medical Officers with a DVM/VMD degree to perform professional veterinary medical duties.

We are seeking dedicated Veterinary Medical Officers to join our team, performing essential veterinary duties. This role requires specific academic and professional qualifications, varying by grade level, along with physical capabilities.

  • *Minimum Qualifications (GS-11 Grade Level):**
  • **Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree (VMD)** from an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Council on Education-accredited school.
  • **or for Graduates of Foreign Veterinary Medical Schools (non-AVMA accredited), you must meet ONE of the following:**
* Proof of certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG). * Possession of a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice veterinary medicine in a U.S. State, DC, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory, including successful completion of the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) or its predecessors. * Proof of equivalency where an AVMA-accredited veterinary school accepts your foreign transcript at full value for an advanced degree or postgraduate program.
  • **and for Foreign Graduates:** Proof of English language proficiency through one of the following, unless waived:
* **TOEFL:** Minimum scores of 560 (paper), 220 (computer), or 83 (internet) with specific speaking/listening/writing sub-scores. Includes TSE (55) and TWE (5.5) for paper/computer versions. * **IELTS:** Minimum overall band score of 7.0, with 7.0 (speaking), 6.5 (listening), and 6.0 (writing). * **CAEL:** Minimum overall band score of 70, with 60 (speaking), 60 (listening), and 50 (writing).

  • *Advanced Qualifications (GS-12 Grade Level):**
  • Must meet all basic GS-11 requirements.
  • **PLUS, ONE of the following:**
* **Experience:** Demonstrated mastery in clinical veterinary medicine, scientific presentations, publications in professional journals, or active participation in professional groups or research that advances veterinary medical science. * **Education:** A Master's degree from an accredited college in a relevant specialization (e.g., animal science, food safety, infectious diseases, epidemiology, public health, microbiology, pathology) or successful completion of two years of an internship, residency, or fellowship training program in a discipline related to the position.

  • *Physical Requirements:**

Applicants must be physically and mentally capable of efficiently performing job functions safely, which includes:

  • Full range of motion, including working with arms above shoulder level and rapid repetitive twisting.
  • Ability to stand and walk on slippery/uneven floors and catwalks, and climb stairs/ladders.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 30 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity of the upper body (arms, hands, fingers) with a normal sense of touch.
  • Good near and distance vision (correctable to at least 20/40 in one eye), ability to distinguish shades of color (limited color blindness).
  • Hearing loss will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
