The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking a highly experienced Supervisory Operations Manager. This role involves leading critical law enforcement activities and specialized investigations to uphold U.S. criminal laws and enhance border security.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Manage and direct federal law enforcement operations, including the investigation, apprehension, and detention of individuals suspected or convicted of criminal offenses.
  • Supervise specialized investigative activities, such as confidential human source (CHS) operations, undercover programs, and criminal/civil asset forfeiture investigations.
  • Apply advanced theories, concepts, principles, practices, and laws governing criminal, civil, and administrative investigations, including constitutional and international law.
  • *Required Qualifications:**
  • **Experience:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level, performing duties similar to those listed above. Your resume must explicitly detail how you meet this requirement.
  • **Time in Grade:** Current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade (GS-14) or equivalent by 10/20/2025.
  • **Retirement Coverage:** This is a Secondary Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) retirement covered position. Applicants must have permanently served in a *primary* LEO Retirement System covered position (e.g., Border Patrol Agent, CBP Enforcement Officer, Air Interdiction Agent, Marine Interdiction Agent). Current permanent Secondary LEOs are exempt.
  • *Pre-Employment Requirements:**
  • **Background Investigation:** Undergo a thorough background investigation by CBP, including inquiries into felony criminal convictions, current felony charges, and illegal drug use.
  • **Polygraph Examination:** This is a polygraph-required position. If not a current CBP law enforcement employee, you may be required to take a polygraph exam with favorable results. Polygraph reciprocity and waivers for certain veterans may be available.
  • **Residency:** For non-CBP employees, you must have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years. Exceptions may be considered for government service abroad or U.S.-sponsored study programs.
  • *Additional Information:**
  • Volunteer experience (paid and unpaid) that builds relevant competencies, knowledge, and skills will be credited.
  • **Probationary Period:** New federal employees serve a one-year probationary period; supervisory appointments may require an 18-month probationary period.
  • **Political Appointees:** Current or former political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES, or Presidential Appointees must disclose this information.
  • **CTAP:** Federal-specific program; refer to OPM for eligibility if applicable.
