Summary
Oversee and evaluate federal polygraph examination programs, requiring NCCA certification, extensive investigative experience, and specific qualifications.
This role involves directing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive polygraph examination programs within a federal agency. You will evaluate program effectiveness, efficiency, and policy initiatives, applying analytical methods to enhance operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct, implement, coordinate, and oversee department-wide polygraph examination programs.
- Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of major polygraph examinations to meet program goals.
- Oversee policy and program initiatives related to polygraph operations.
- Analyze programs using comprehensive methods to improve operations.
Required Qualifications:
- Certification & Experience:
- NCCA Certification: Must be certified by the National Center for Credibility Assessment (NCCA) through the Basic Federal Polygraph Training Program.
- or if not currently certified, meet NCCA basic requirements for admission to training (transcripts required).
- GS-15 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level, performing duties similar to those listed under Key Responsibilities.
- Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- At least two years of investigative experience with a recognized U.S. Government or law enforcement agency.
- Successful completion of a Psychophysiological Detection of Deception (PDD) polygraph examination.
- Minimum age of 25 years.

- Additional Requirements:
- Background Investigation: Subject to a thorough background investigation, including questions on felony convictions and illegal drug use.
- Polygraph Examination: Required for non-CBP law enforcement employees (polygraph reciprocity or waiver may be possible).
- Residency: Must have physically resided in the U.S. or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years (exceptions for U.S. government-related work/study abroad apply).
- Time in Grade: Current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent.
- Probationary Period: New federal employees serve a one-year probationary period.
Important Notes:
- Volunteer experience (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) counts towards qualifying experience.
- Transcripts required if certification documentation is unavailable.
