Job Description
Summary
Lead national programs and provide strategic leadership for Customs and Border Protection, requiring specialized experience and a law enforcement background.
This GS-14 position involves significant leadership and program management within Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Manage and direct one or more national programs.
- Provide comprehensive program direction and support for major organizational units.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, control, and evaluate subordinate activities.
- Develop procedures, techniques, and provide policy guidance.
- Serve as a primary liaison with high-ranking officials in other federal agencies and DHS management.
- *Qualifications:**
- **Experience:** One year of specialized experience at the GS-13 level or equivalent, performing duties similar to those listed above (e.g., program management, leadership, policy guidance, inter-agency liaison).
- **Time-in-Grade:** Current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade (or equivalent).
- **Special Retirement Coverage (SRC):** This is a secondary position requiring prior permanent service in a primary Customs and Border Protection Officer (CBPO) SRC position (e.g., Customs Inspector, Immigration Inspector, Canine Enforcement Officer, or CBPO).
- **Resume Requirement:** Your resume must clearly detail how you meet the specialized experience and primary CBPO SRC requirements.
- *Pre-employment Process & Requirements:**
- **Background Investigation:** Thorough investigation required for all applicants.
- **Polygraph Examination:** Required for non-current CBP law enforcement employees; reciprocity for prior federal polygraphs and waivers for certain veterans may be available.
- **Medical/Physical:** Successful completion of medical screening and physical standards is mandatory.
- **Physical Fitness Test:** Required to successfully pass the Pre-employment Fitness Test.
- **Residency:** Non-CBP applicants must have physically resided in the U.S. or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years. Exceptions may apply for U.S. government work/support.
- **Probationary Period:** Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
