Summary

Manage national law enforcement programs and operations at CBP; requires GS-14 specialized experience and primary LEO background.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seeks a highly qualified professional to manage critical national programs, resolve complex policy issues, and support a robust safety and health agenda. This role involves essential inspection, intelligence analysis, examination, and law enforcement activities, including investigating violations of CBP laws. You will also serve as a key liaison with high-ranking federal officials and DHS managers.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Manage one or more national programs.
  • Identify and resolve unique issues where current policy may not exist.
  • Support and maintain an aggressive safety and health program in compliance with regulations.
  • Conduct inspection, intelligence analysis, examination, and law enforcement operations, including investigations.
  • Act as a liaison with high-ranking officials across federal agencies and within DHS.
  • *Requirements:**
  • **Experience:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, performing duties similar to those listed above. This includes paid and unpaid experience.
  • **Prior Law Enforcement Service (Mandatory Prerequisite):** Must have permanently served in a primary Customs and Border Protection Officer (CBPO) Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) position (e.g., Customs Inspector, Immigration Inspector, Canine Enforcement Officer, or CBP Officer GS-1895) or possess equivalent primary/rigorous law enforcement or firefighting experience from outside the Federal government.
* *Note:* If you currently serve in a permanent Secondary Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) Retirement covered position, you are exempt from this specific mandatory prerequisite.
  • **Time in Grade (Federal Employees):** Must have completed 52 weeks at the next lower grade level (or equivalent) by 09/11/2025.
  • *Additional Pre-Employment Requirements:**
  • **Background Investigation:** A thorough background investigation is required, covering criminal history and drug use, to uphold CBP’s core values.
  • **Polygraph Examination:** This is a polygraph-required position. Non-CBP law enforcement employees may be required to take and pass a polygraph exam. Reciprocity for prior federal polygraphs and waivers for certain veterans may be available.
  • **Probationary Period:** Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
  • **Medical/Physical Standards:** If not a current GS-1895, you must meet specific medical/physical standards.
  • **Political Appointee Disclosure:** Disclosure required for current or former political appointees within the last 5 years.
