## U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer (GS-13)

Join U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as a GS-13 Officer, contributing to national security through robust law enforcement and border protection at ports of entry. This administrative role requires a strong background in primary law enforcement duties.

### Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections, intelligence analysis, and examinations related to people, conveyances, and merchandise.
  • Perform essential law enforcement activities, including apprehensions, detentions, and arrests at designated ports of entry.
  • Interpret and apply complex federal, state, and local laws and regulations concerning admissibility.
  • Plan and execute investigations, studies, and assignments to resolve operational and law enforcement issues.
  • Utilize automated systems and law enforcement databases to analyze pre-arrival information and identify high-risk individuals.
### Qualifications & Requirements:

  • *Experience:**
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. This experience must clearly demonstrate performance of duties such as inspections, intelligence analysis, law enforcement activities at ports of entry, interpreting complex regulations, leading investigations, and utilizing law enforcement databases.
  • Both paid and unpaid (including volunteer) experience will be considered.
  • *Mandatory Retirement Coverage (Administrative Secondary LEO Position):**
  • This position is classified as an **Administrative Secondary Law Enforcement Officer (LEO)**, requiring prior permanent service in a *primary* LEO position.
  • You must have completed a minimum of three years of service in a primary/rigorous LEO role (e.g., Customs Inspector, Immigration Inspector, Canine Enforcement Officer, or CBP Officer).
  • Applicants must have moved directly from a primary to a secondary position without a break in service exceeding three days.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities from a primary LEO position are a mandatory prerequisite.
  • *Additional Requirements:**
  • Meet all qualification and Time-in-Grade requirements (52 weeks at GS-12 or equivalent) by September 12, 2025.
  • Successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, which includes questions on criminal history and substance use.
  • Complete a polygraph examination, unless you are a current CBP law enforcement employee, eligible for reciprocity, or qualify for a veteran waiver.
  • A probationary period may be required.
