Summary
Lead complex aviation law enforcement operations for CBP, requiring extensive pilot experience, specialized leadership, and federal training.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking a Supervisory Air Interdiction Agent to direct complex aviation law enforcement operations.
- *Core Responsibilities:**
- Direct complex aviation law enforcement operations (interregional/international scope).
- Develop and deploy innovative aviation enforcement strategies.
- Devise new aviation enforcement techniques.
- Plan and conduct aviation enforcement activities, including those with extensive jurisdictional challenges.
- Serve as an expert in coordinating and overseeing aviation enforcement efforts.
- Conduct independent studies to resolve controversial issues related to aviation enforcement.
- *Required Qualifications:**
- **Experience:** 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level, performing duties such as those listed above. Volunteer experience is considered. (Resume must clearly demonstrate this experience).
- **Pilot Certification:** Current FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with ratings in: Airplane (single-engine, multi-engine land, instrument) or Rotorcraft (helicopter, instrument). U.S. military ratings or an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate may substitute.
- **Medical Certificate:** Current FAA Class II Medical Certificate required for application; Class I required by interview date.
- **Flight Hours (Documented Log):**
- **Federal Law Enforcement Training:** Successful completion of relevant Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) training (e.g., Air and Marine Agents, Border Patrol Agents, Criminal Investigators).
- **LEO Retirement Prerequisite:** This administrative law enforcement position requires prior primary/rigorous law enforcement or firefighting experience, unless currently serving in a permanent Secondary LEO retirement-covered position.
- **Time in Grade (Federal Employees):** Must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent.
- *Pre-Employment Screening & Conditions:**
- **Background Investigation:** Thorough investigation required, covering criminal history and illegal drug use.
- **Polygraph Examination:** Required for applicants not currently in a CBP law enforcement position; reciprocity or veteran waivers may apply.
- **Residency Requirement:** Must have resided in the U.S. or its protectorates for at least 3 of the last 5 years. Waivers may be granted for specific circumstances (e.g., U.S. government employment, military service, study abroad).
- **Probationary Period:** One-year probationary period for new federal employees.
- **Medical/Physical:** Must meet medical standards and physical requirements (e.g., vision, hearing, lifting), determined on a case-by-case basis.
