Supervisory Border Patrol Agent (Supervisory Assistant Chief)

This senior role involves directing and overseeing Border Patrol functions, operational programs, and policy initiatives within an assigned area.

• *Key Responsibilities:**
• Provide strategic direction and oversight for Border Patrol operations.
• Supervise, manage, and direct operational programs and their support functions.
• Lead local policy development and program initiatives.
• *Required Qualifications:**
• **Experience:**

* **GS-14 Level:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, including providing direction/oversight, supervising programs, and directing policy within a law enforcement context. * **Law Enforcement:** Demonstrated ability to: * Execute arrests and apply sound judgment in firearm use. * Interact effectively and tactfully with individuals/groups in law enforcement matters. * Rapidly analyze information to make prompt, appropriate law enforcement decisions. * Develop and maintain informant networks.

• **Language Proficiency:** Must be proficient in both spoken and written Spanish.
• **Firearms Qualification:** Meet initial and ongoing firearms qualifications. Ineligible applicants include those with felony convictions, domestic violence misdemeanors, outstanding warrants, substance abuse issues, or mental health commitments.
• **Medical Requirements:** Successfully pass a medical screening to ensure physical and medical capability for essential job functions without endangering self or others.
• **Background Investigation:** Undergo a comprehensive background investigation, including inquiries into criminal history and illegal drug use.
• **Polygraph Examination:** This is a polygraph-required position. Non-current CBP law enforcement employees may be required to pass a polygraph exam or qualify for reciprocity/waiver (e.g., for certain veterans or prior federal polygraphs).
• *Special Retirement Provisions:**
• This is a secondary law enforcement position subject to mandatory retirement under CSRS/FERS. Eligibility generally requires prior service in a 'rigorous' law enforcement position.
