- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for Border Patrol operations.
- Supervise, manage, and direct operational programs and their support functions.
- Lead local policy development and program initiatives.
- *Required Qualifications:**
- **Experience:**
- **Language Proficiency:** Must be proficient in both spoken and written Spanish.
- **Firearms Qualification:** Meet initial and ongoing firearms qualifications. Ineligible applicants include those with felony convictions, domestic violence misdemeanors, outstanding warrants, substance abuse issues, or mental health commitments.
- **Medical Requirements:** Successfully pass a medical screening to ensure physical and medical capability for essential job functions without endangering self or others.
- **Background Investigation:** Undergo a comprehensive background investigation, including inquiries into criminal history and illegal drug use.
- **Polygraph Examination:** This is a polygraph-required position. Non-current CBP law enforcement employees may be required to pass a polygraph exam or qualify for reciprocity/waiver (e.g., for certain veterans or prior federal polygraphs).
- *Special Retirement Provisions:**
- This is a secondary law enforcement position subject to mandatory retirement under CSRS/FERS. Eligibility generally requires prior service in a 'rigorous' law enforcement position.
