Job Description

Summary

Supervise and direct Border Patrol operations, programs, and policy, requiring specialized law enforcement experience and Spanish fluency.

This position involves supervising and directing Border Patrol functions, programs, and policy initiatives within an assigned area.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Provide technical and administrative direction and oversight for Border Patrol operations.
  • Supervise, manage, and direct operational programs and their support functions.
  • Direct local policy and program initiatives.
  • Develop and manage operational policies related to Border Patrol operations.
  • *Required Qualifications:**
  • **Experience:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, performing supervisory and managerial Border Patrol-related duties.
  • **Law Enforcement Expertise:** Demonstrated ability to make arrests, exercise sound judgment in firearm use, effectively interact with individuals and groups, rapidly analyze information for prompt law enforcement decisions, and develop/maintain informant networks.
  • **Language Proficiency:** Must be proficient in the Spanish language (able to speak and read).
  • *Mandatory Pre-Employment & Compliance:**
  • **Firearms:** Must meet initial and continuing qualifications for firearm use as outlined by federal law. Ineligibility includes felony convictions, outstanding warrants, unlawful controlled substance use, mental health adjudications, or domestic violence convictions/restraining orders.
  • **Medical Screening:** Successfully complete a comprehensive medical screening process.
  • **Background Investigation:** Pass a thorough background investigation.
  • **Polygraph Examination:** Successfully complete a polygraph examination (with potential for reciprocity or veteran waivers).
  • **Retirement Coverage:** This is a secondary law enforcement position subject to special retirement provisions, requiring specific prior rigorous service.
  • **Time in Grade:** Current federal employees must meet applicable Time in Grade requirements.
