Summary
Enforce immigration laws, conduct investigations, and analyze intelligence as a Spanish-proficient GS-13 Law Enforcement Officer.
Join our team as a GS-13 Law Enforcement Officer, performing critical enforcement and investigative duties to ensure national security. This role demands significant law enforcement expertise and a commitment to public service.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Interpret and enforce immigration and related laws, rules, and regulations.
- Conduct intelligence gathering and analysis from various sources.
- Develop comprehensive casework for criminal prosecutions and investigations, including identifying and investigating smuggling operations.
- Devise and recommend solutions for operational problems, keeping management informed of deficiencies and resolutions.
- Ensure strict compliance with enforcement and operational practices.
- Execute arrests and exercise sound judgment in the use of firearms.
- Engage effectively and professionally with individuals and groups in law enforcement contexts.
- Rapidly analyze information to make prompt, appropriate law enforcement decisions.
- Cultivate and maintain a network of informants.
- *Required Qualifications:**
- **Experience:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level, demonstrating the core abilities listed above. This typically includes substantial law enforcement or comparable work.
- **Language:** Proficiency in Spanish (speaking and reading) is mandatory.
- **Firearms:** Must meet initial and continuous firearms qualifications. Ineligibility applies for specific criminal convictions (e.g., felonies, domestic violence), outstanding warrants, or unlawful substance use.
- **Medical:** Successful completion of a medical screening to perform essential job functions safely.
- **Background Investigation:** Pass a thorough background investigation upholding agency values of vigilance, service, and integrity.
- **Polygraph Examination:** Required for non-current CBP law enforcement employees; polygraph reciprocity or veteran waivers may be available.
- **LEO Retirement Eligibility:** This is a secondary law enforcement officer position. Candidates must meet specific conditions for special retirement provisions, including prior rigorous law enforcement or firefighting experience (or equivalent non-federal experience).
- *Important Notes:**
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Volunteer experience will be credited towards qualifications.
- Compliance with Time in Grade requirements is necessary for current federal employees.
- This position is subject to mandatory retirement under special LEO provisions.
