Lead and oversee critical Border Patrol operations and programs as a GS-14 level supervisor. This role requires extensive law enforcement experience, strategic direction, and strong leadership to manage assigned areas, operational initiatives, and policy implementation.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Provide direction and oversight for Border Patrol functions within an assigned area.
  • Supervise, manage, or direct operational programs and their support functions.
  • Direct local policy and program initiatives.
  • *Required Qualifications & Experience (GS-14 Level):**
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, performing duties such as:
* Providing direction and oversight for Border Patrol functions. * Supervising, managing, or directing operational programs. * Directing local policy and program initiatives.
  • **Law Enforcement Specialized Experience (Individual Occupational Requirement):**
* Ability to make arrests and exercise sound judgment in firearm use. * Deal effectively and tactfully with individuals or groups in law enforcement matters. * Rapidly analyze information, make prompt decisions, and take appropriate law enforcement action. * Develop and maintain contact with a network of informants.

  • *Mandatory Requirements:**
  • **Language Proficiency:** Must be proficient in the Spanish language (able to speak and read).
  • **Firearms:** Meet initial and continuing qualifications for firearm use. Ineligibility applies for convictions of crimes punishable by imprisonment exceeding one year, outstanding warrants, unlawful use or addiction to controlled substances, certain mental health adjudications, or convictions of domestic violence.
  • **Medical Screening:** Successfully complete a post-offer medical screening, demonstrating physical and medical capability to perform essential job functions safely.
  • **Background Investigation:** Pass a thorough background investigation, including disclosure of felony criminal convictions, illegal drug use, and use of non-prescribed controlled substances.
  • **Polygraph Examination:** Required for applicants not currently in a CBP law enforcement position. Polygraph reciprocity or waivers may be considered for eligible veterans or those with prior federal polygraph exams.
  • *Additional Information:**
  • **Time in Grade:** Current federal employees must meet Time in Grade requirements (52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent) by November 7, 2025.
  • **Volunteer Experience:** Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, will be credited towards qualifications.
  • **Special Retirement Coverage:** This is a secondary position subject to mandatory law enforcement officer retirement provisions, requiring specific prior rigorous service and continuous secondary employment conditions.
