Lead complex aviation law enforcement operations, developing strategies and providing expert oversight, requiring significant prior law enforcement experience.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking a Supervisory Aviation Enforcement Agent to lead complex aviation law enforcement operations. This role involves directing high-level enforcement efforts, developing innovative strategies, and serving as a subject matter expert.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Direct complex aviation law enforcement operations with interregional, national, or international scope.
- Develop and deploy innovative and effective aviation enforcement strategies and techniques.
- Plan and conduct aviation enforcement activities, including those with extensive jurisdictional challenges.
- Serve as an expert, coordinating and overseeing aviation enforcement efforts.
- Independently conduct studies to resolve controversial issues related to aviation enforcement.
- *Qualifications:**
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level. This experience must include directing complex aviation law enforcement operations, developing enforcement strategies, devising new techniques, planning activities with jurisdictional problems, and serving as an expert in coordinating/overseeing aviation enforcement efforts.
- (For current federal employees) Meet Time in Grade requirements by 12/10/2025, having served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent.
- *Mandatory Pre-employment Requirements:**
- **Background Investigation:** Successful completion of a thorough background investigation, including drug screening.
- **Polygraph Examination:** Required for applicants not currently employed in a CBP law enforcement position (polygraph reciprocity or waiver may be available).
- **Residency:** Must have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years (exceptions apply for U.S. government service or study abroad).
- **Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC):** Successful completion of relevant FLETC training prior to entry. Entry-level training for Air and Marine Agents, Border Patrol Agents, and Criminal Investigators meets this requirement.
- **Retirement Coverage:** This is a Secondary Administrative Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) retirement-covered position, requiring prior primary/rigorous law enforcement or equivalent experience (exempt if currently in a permanent Secondary LEO position).
- **Probationary Period:** New federal employees must serve a one-year probationary period.
- **Political Appointees:** Current or former political appointees must disclose this information.
