The U.S. Secret Service is actively recruiting dedicated individuals for a Special Agent position. This challenging role involves leveraging investigative, protective, and law enforcement expertise to safeguard national interests. As a federal employee, you will undergo a 2-year trial period to evaluate your performance and continued suitability for public service.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Apply advanced investigative, protective, and law enforcement techniques.
  • Demonstrate initiative, meticulous attention to detail, and sound judgment in critical situations.
  • Collect, compile, and meticulously analyze facts, evidence, and other pertinent data.
  • Evaluate complex information to form accurate conclusions and adapt to new data.
  • Collaborate effectively with or lead teams in mission-critical operations.
  • *Minimum Qualifications (GL-07 Level - Starting Salary: $48,371.00):**

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • *1. Bachelor's Degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA):**
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, evidenced by one of the following:
* An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, or a 3.0 GPA for courses completed in the last two years of undergraduate study. * Ranking in the upper one-third of your graduating class within your college, university, or major subdivision. * Membership in a national honor society (excluding freshman honor societies).
  • *Note:* Official transcripts showing GPAs for all undergraduate coursework are required. GPAs are rounded to one decimal place (e.g., 2.95 rounds to 3.0). If more than 10% of your coursework was pass/fail, qualification must be based on class standing or honor society membership.
  • *2. Graduate-Level Education:**
  • Completion of at least one full year (18 semester hours or equivalent) of graduate-level education.

    Specialized Experience:**

  • A minimum of 1 year of specialized experience directly related to investigative methods, protective methods, or law enforcement techniques. This experience must demonstrate:
* Strong initiative, attention to detail, and sound judgment. * Proficiency in collecting, assembling, and developing facts, evidence, or pertinent data. * Ability to analyze and evaluate data to arrive at sound conclusions, including applying new information. * Capability to partner with or lead others in accomplishing mission activities.
  • *Note:* Qualifying experience includes both paid and unpaid/volunteer work.
  • *Rigorous Assessment Process:**

  • **Applicant Physical Abilities Test (APAT):** A mandatory fitness assessment evaluating muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, and aerobic capacity through components such as push-ups, sit-ups, the Illinois Agility Run, and a 1.5 Mile Run.
  • **General Medical Requirements:** The position demands moderate to arduous physical exertion, including prolonged walking and standing, proficient use of firearms, and exposure to various weather conditions. Essential requirements include manual dexterity and full, unhindered motion of fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders, hips, and knee joints for effective performance.
