Summary

Seeking experienced federal criminal investigators for a challenging role requiring specialized training and extensive background checks.

Join our team as a Criminal Investigator, leveraging your specialized training and experience in a critical federal law enforcement role. This position requires a rigorous selection process to ensure the highest caliber of professionals.

  • *Core Qualifications:**
  • **Training:** Completed FLETC Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP), USCP Basic Agent Training Program (BATP), or an equivalent federal training program (e.g., FBI, DEA, U.S. Postal Inspection Service). A certificate or transcript is required with your application.
  • **Experience:** Minimum five (5) years of experience in an 1811 series (federal criminal investigator) at the time of application. This requirement is waived for prior USCP employees.
  • **Citizenship:** Must be a United States citizen.
  • **Age:** Must not have reached 58 years of age at the time of appointment (waivers may apply).
  • **Education:** High School Diploma or GED certificate is required.
  • **Driver's License:** Possess and maintain a valid REAL ID U.S. driver's license with a responsible driving history (no revocations or suspensions in the past year).
  • **Duty Status:** Must be in a full and unrestricted duty status at the time of application and appointment.
  • **Selective Service:** Male applicants must be registered with the Selective Service System.
  • *Hiring Process Overview:**
Our comprehensive hiring process ensures we select highly qualified candidates. Travel for assessments and training is at the applicant's expense.

  • **Initial Assessment Phase (Virtual):** Includes an orientation providing an overview of the organization and hiring process.
  • **Examination Phase (In-person in Washington, D.C.):**
* **Psychological Examination:** Battery of assessments and a clinical interview (approximately 4-6 hours, requiring a desktop/laptop, camera, and microphone for online components). * **Medical Examination:** Determines medical qualification to perform job functions (fasting required). * **Polygraph Examination:** Confirms information obtained during the selection process. * *Note:* USCP sworn employees retired within 12 months of application may be waived from these examinations.
  • **Background Investigation:** A full-field investigation including employment history, references, criminal/credit history, and academic records. This includes fingerprint, criminal history (no domestic violence misdemeanor), and credit checks (no federal loan defaults).
  • *Important Considerations:**
  • Successful completion of all required training and a probationary period is mandatory.
  • Deliberate misstatements, omissions, or intentionally withholding information at any stage will result in disqualification.
