Federal Criminal Investigator (1811 Series) Opportunity

Join a federal law enforcement agency as a Criminal Investigator. This role requires specialized training, significant experience, and successful completion of a rigorous multi-phase hiring process.

Key Qualifications:

• Training: Must have completed the FLETC Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP), USCP Basic Agent Training Program (BATP), or an equivalent from FBI, DEA, or U.S. Postal Inspection Service. A certificate or transcript is required with your application. • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years in an 1811 series position. This requirement is waived for prior USCP employees. • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Naturalized citizens must be able to complete a verifiable background investigation. • Age: Must not have reached 58 years of age at the time of appointment (waivers may apply). • Driver's License: Possess and maintain a valid REAL ID U.S. driver's license, with no revocations or suspensions in the past year. Evidence of responsible driving is required. • Duty Status: Must be in a full and unrestricted duty status at both application and time of appointment. • Selective Service: Male applicants must be registered with Selective Service. • Education: High School diploma or GED required.

Hiring Process Overview:

Applicants must successfully complete the following phases. Travel for assessments and training is at the applicant's expense, with some steps requiring an in-person visit to Washington, D.C.

  • Initial Assessment Phase (Virtual): Includes an orientation providing an overview of the agency and hiring process.
  • Examination Phase (In-Person):
• Psychological: Battery of assessments and clinical interview (4-6 hours; partly online). Candidates are encouraged to be well-rested and eat prior. • Medical: Determine physical qualification to perform job requirements; fasting required prior to examination. • Polygraph: To confirm information obtained through the selection process. • Note: USCP sworn employees who retired no more than 12 months prior to application may be waived from these examinations.
  • Background Investigation: A comprehensive full-field investigation including employment history, residential history, personal references, in-depth criminal and credit history (no misdemeanor domestic violence convictions, no federal student loan defaults/delinquencies), and academic records. Fingerprint, criminal, credit, and tax checks are also required. Deliberate misstatements, omissions, or withholding information at any stage will result in disqualification.
  • Training & Probation: Must successfully complete all required training and a probationary period.
