Job Description

Summary

Seeking a FLETC/BATP-certified Criminal Investigator with 5+ years of 1811 series experience for the U.S. Capitol Police.

The U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) is seeking highly qualified individuals for a Criminal Investigator position. This role requires candidates to meet stringent federal law enforcement standards and successfully navigate a comprehensive multi-phase hiring process.

  • *Key Qualifications:**
  • **Training:** Completed FLETC Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP), USCP Basic Agent Training Program (BATP), or an equivalent program from the FBI, DEA, or U.S. Postal Inspection Service. A certificate or FLETC transcript is required.
  • **Experience:** Minimum of five (5) years of experience in an 1811 series. This requirement is waived for prior USCP employees.
  • **Citizenship:** Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • **Age:** Must not have reached 58 years of age at the time of appointment (waivers may apply).
  • **Education:** High School diploma or GED required.
  • **Driver's License:** Possess and maintain a valid REAL ID U.S. driver's license with no revocations or suspensions in the past year, and evidence of responsible driving.
  • **Duty Status:** Must be in full and unrestricted duty status at the time of application and appointment.
  • **Selective Service:** Male applicants must be registered for Selective Service.
  • **Criminal History:** Successfully pass a comprehensive criminal history check (past 10 years). Ineligible if convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
  • **Credit History:** Successfully pass a credit check; no default or delinquency on Federal guaranteed student loans.
  • *Hiring Process:**
Candidates will undergo a rigorous selection process. Travel expenses for assessments and training are the applicant's responsibility.

  • **Initial Assessment (Virtual):** Orientation providing an overview of USCP and the hiring process.
  • **Examination Phase (In-Person, Washington D.C.):** Efforts are made to schedule these consecutively.
* **Psychological:** Battery of assessments and clinical interview (4-6 hours, some online components require desktop/laptop, camera, mic). * **Medical:** Determines medical qualification to perform job functions (fasting required). * **Polygraph:** Used to confirm selection process information. * *Waiver:* USCP sworn employees retired within 12 months prior to application may be waived from medical, psychological, and polygraph examinations.
  • **Background Investigation:** A full-field investigation including employment, residential, references, in-depth criminal and credit history, and academic records. Honesty and transparency are paramount; deliberately withholding information will result in disqualification.
  • **Additional Checks:** Fingerprint check (FBI), tax check.
  • *Post-Hiring Requirements:**
  • Successful completion of all required training.
  • Successful completion of a probationary period.
