Summary

U.S. Capitol Police seeks experienced, trained Criminal Investigators; requires federal law enforcement training and comprehensive background checks.

The U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) is seeking highly qualified and experienced Criminal Investigators to join our team.

  • *Key Responsibilities (Implied):**
As a Criminal Investigator, you will play a crucial role in protecting congressional interests and enforcing federal laws. The role requires a strong background in law enforcement investigations and the ability to undergo rigorous screening.

  • *Minimum Qualifications:**
  • **Citizenship:** Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • **Training:** Completed the FLETC Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP), USCP Basic Agent Training Program (BATP), or an equivalent training program from the FBI, DEA, or U.S. Postal Inspection Service. A certificate or FLETC transcript is required with your application.
  • **Experience:** A minimum of five (5) years of experience in an 1811 series is required at the time of application. This requirement is waived for prior USCP employees.
  • **Age:** Must not have reached 58 years of age at the time of appointment (waivers may apply).
  • **Education:** High School Diploma or GED certificate.
  • **Driver's License:** Possess and maintain a valid REAL ID U.S. driver's license with a responsible driving record for the past year (no revocations or suspensions).
  • **Duty Status:** Must be in a full and unrestricted duty status at the time of application and appointment.
  • **Selective Service:** Male applicants must be registered for Selective Service.
  • *Hiring Process:**

Candidates must successfully navigate a multi-phase hiring process:

  • **Initial Assessment (Virtual):** Includes an orientation providing an overview of USCP and the hiring process.
  • **Examination Phase (Washington, D.C. - first required visit):** Efforts are made to schedule these consecutively.
* **Psychological Examination:** Includes a battery of assessments and a clinical interview (approximately 4-6 hours, partly online). * **Medical Examination:** Determines medical qualification; requires fasting. * **Polygraph Examination:** Confirms information gathered during the selection process. * *Note:* USCP sworn employees who retired no more than 12 months prior to application may be waived from these examinations.
  • **Background Investigation:** A full-field investigation including employment history, references, criminal history (past 10 years, no domestic violence misdemeanors), credit history (no federal loan defaults), and academic records. Fingerprint check required.
  • *Additional Requirements:**
  • Travel for hiring assessments and training is at the applicant's expense.
  • Must successfully complete a probationary period.
  • **Important:** Deliberate misstatements, omissions, or intentionally withholding required information at any phase of the hiring process will result in disqualification.
