Summary

U.S. Capitol Police seeks experienced, FLETC-certified Law Enforcement Officers for challenging investigator positions.

Join the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) as a Law Enforcement Officer/Criminal Investigator, dedicated to protecting the U.S. Capitol. This role demands individuals committed to upholding the law and ensuring security.

  • *Key Requirements:**
  • **Training & Experience:**
* Completed FLETC Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP) or equivalent (FBI, DEA, U.S. Postal Inspection Service). Transcript/certificate required with application. * Minimum 9 months of post-training, current law enforcement experience, employed outside of USCP. * Must be in full and unrestricted duty status at time of application and appointment.
  • **Citizenship & Age:**
* U.S. Citizen. * At least 21 years old at appointment; generally not older than 39 (or 40 if birthday in same month). Lateral transfer exceptions apply for experienced Federal law enforcement officers.
  • **Education & Licenses:**
* High School Diploma or GED. * Possess a valid U.S. REAL ID driver's license, free from suspension or revocation for the past year. Evidence of responsible driving required.
  • **Background & Fitness:**
* No misdemeanor conviction for domestic violence. * Successful credit check; must not be in default or delinquent on federal student loans. * Male applicants must be registered with Selective Service (or exempt).

  • *Hiring Process Overview:**

The multi-stage selection process includes virtual and in-person components:

  • **Initial Assessment (Virtual):** Orientation providing an overview of USCP and the hiring process.
  • **Examination Phase (In-Person, Washington D.C.):** Consists of Psychological, Medical, and Polygraph examinations. Efforts are made to schedule these consecutively to minimize travel.
  • **Background Investigation:** A comprehensive full field background investigation reviewing employment history, references, criminal/credit history, academic records, and fingerprint checks.
  • *Additional Information:**
  • Successful completion of all required training and a probationary period is mandatory.
  • Travel for hiring assessments and training is at the applicant's expense.
  • Deliberate misstatements, omissions, or intentionally withholding required information at any phase will result in disqualification.
