Summary

Seeking experienced federal law enforcement officers with FLETC CITP training for USCP after rigorous screening.

The U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) is seeking highly qualified and experienced federal law enforcement professionals. This role demands individuals who meet stringent training, experience, and personal conduct standards, and are prepared to undergo a rigorous, multi-phase hiring process.

  • *Essential Training & Experience:**
  • **Mandatory Training:** Must have completed the FLETC Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP) or an equivalent from the FBI, DEA, or U.S. Postal Inspection Service. A certificate or FLETC transcript is required with application.
  • **Law Enforcement Experience:**
* Current law enforcement officer employed outside USCP. * Minimum 9 months post-training law enforcement experience at application. * Minimum 52 weeks of law enforcement experience at appointment.
  • **Duty Status:** Must be in full and unrestricted duty status at both application and appointment.
  • *Key Candidate Qualifications:**
  • **Citizenship:** Must be a United States citizen.
  • **Age:** Minimum 21 years old at appointment. Generally, not older than 39 at appointment (or 40 if turning 40 in appointment month). Specific exceptions for lateral transfers from federal civilian law enforcement (SF-50 required) allow service up to age 59 with 20 years combined federal law enforcement service.
  • **Education:** High School diploma or GED certificate.
  • **Driver's License:** Possess and maintain a valid REAL ID U.S. driver's license; no revocations or suspensions in the past year; evidence of responsible driving.
  • **Selective Service:** Male applicants must be registered or verify exemption.
  • **Firearm Eligibility:** No convictions for misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence.
  • **Financial Standing:** Must not be in default or delinquent on any Federal guaranteed student loans.
  • *Rigorous Hiring Process:**
Candidates must successfully complete all phases. Travel for assessments and training is at the applicant's expense.

  • **Initial Assessment Phase (Virtual):** Orientation providing an overview of USCP and the hiring process.
  • **Examination Phase (In-Office, Washington D.C.):**
* **Psychological:** 4-6 hour assessment (includes an online component requiring desktop/laptop, camera, and microphone) and clinical interview. Be well-rested. * **Medical:** Determines medical qualification; requires fasting prior to examination. * **Polygraph:** Used to confirm information obtained through the selection process.
  • **Background Investigation:** A full field investigation including thorough review and verification of employment, residential history, personal references, in-depth criminal and credit history, and academic records.
* Includes fingerprint check, comprehensive criminal history check (past 10 years), and credit check. * **Note:** Deliberate misstatements, omissions, or withholding information at any phase will result in disqualification.

  • *Post-Hiring Requirements:**
  • Successful completion of all required training.
  • Successful completion of a probationary period.
