## U.S. Secret Service Special Agent
Join the U.S. Secret Service as a Special Agent, protecting national interests through rigorous law enforcement and investigative work. This demanding role requires unwavering commitment, sharp analytical skills, and physical readiness.
### Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct complex criminal investigations to determine violations of Federal laws and regulations.
- Collect, assemble, analyze, and evaluate facts, evidence, and other pertinent data.
- Perform interviews, interrogations, arrests, searches, and seizures.
- Apply advanced investigative, protective, and law enforcement techniques.
- Exercise initiative, attention to detail, and sound judgment.
- Partner with or lead others in accomplishing mission activities and managing projects.
- Identify problem areas, propose, and implement effective solutions.
- *GL-07 Level (Starting base salary $48,371):**
- A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) (based on GPA of 3.0+ or upper one-third class rank) or
- At least one full year of graduate-level education or
- One year of specialized experience related to investigative, protective, and law enforcement methods, demonstrating analytical skills, judgment, and ability to partner/lead.
- *GL-09 Level (Starting base salary $53,945):**
- A master's or equivalent graduate degree (e.g., LL.B., J.D.) or two full years of progressively higher graduate education in a related field or
- At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GL-7 level, applying law enforcement/investigative techniques, problem-solving, team responsibility, and setting work priorities or
- A combination of specialized experience and related graduate education beyond the first full year.
- *GS-11 Level (Starting base salary $63,163):**
- A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (e.g., LL.M.) or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or
- At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GL-9 level, involving planning/conducting complex criminal investigations, managing projects, conducting interviews/interrogations, arrests, and seizures or
- A combination of specialized experience and related graduate education beyond the first full year of doctoral study.
- **Assessments:** Successful completion of Phase I (National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Special Agent Entrance Exam (SAEE), Applicant Physical Abilities Test (APAT), Interview) and Phase II (Credit Check, Security Interview, Polygraph Examination, Drug Screening, Medical Examination, Top Secret Background Investigation) is mandatory.
- **Applicant Physical Abilities Test (APAT):** Evaluates physical fitness through push-ups, sit-ups, an Illinois Agility Run, and a 1.5-mile run.
- **Drug Policy:** Strict adherence to U.S. Secret Service drug guidelines is required.
- **Trial Period:** A 2-year trial period may be required upon employment, during which fitness and public interest advancement are evaluated.
Candidates with specific backgrounds are highly sought after:
- Possession of a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear (CBRN), or CBRN and Explosives (CBRNE) occupational specialty in the U.S. Armed Forces.
- Possession of a medical occupational specialty in the U.S. Armed Forces.
- Served as a member of a local, state, federal, or military CBRN/CBRNE, Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF), or Civil Support Team (CST) unit.
- Served as a member of a local, state, federal, or military rescue, fire and rescue, search and rescue, extrication, or emergency medical support unit.
- Currently certified, licensed, or registered as an EMT, Paramedic, CNA, RNA, RN, PA, or MD.
- Completed requisite training for CBRN, CBRNE, rescue, fire and rescue, search and rescue, extrication, or emergency medical support units.
