Summary

Serve as a U.S. Secret Service Special Agent, conducting investigations and protective operations with rigorous requirements.

The U.S. Secret Service seeks Special Agents to conduct complex investigations and protective missions. This challenging federal law enforcement role requires exceptional dedication, physical fitness, and adherence to stringent security guidelines. Successful candidates will navigate a comprehensive hiring process, including extensive background checks and physical assessments.

  • *Key Responsibilities (Vary by Grade Level):**
  • Conduct complex criminal investigations to determine violations of Federal laws and regulations.
  • Apply law enforcement, protective, and investigative techniques.
  • Gather, analyze, and evaluate facts, evidence, and pertinent data.
  • Conduct interviews and interrogations, make arrests, and perform searches and seizures.
  • Exercise initiative, attention to detail, and sound judgment.
  • Identify problem areas, propose and implement solutions.
  • Manage projects, set priorities, and allocate resources.
  • Partner with and lead others in mission activities.
  • *Qualifications:**
  • **GL-07 (Starting Salary: $48,371):**
* Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (GPA 3.0+, upper one-third class rank, or honor society membership). * **or** One full year of graduate-level education (18 semester hours). * **or** One year of specialized experience related to investigative, protective, or law enforcement methods, demonstrating analytical skills, initiative, and attention to detail.
  • **GL-09 (Starting Salary: $53,945):**
* Master's or equivalent graduate degree (e.g., LL.B., J.D.) or two full years of progressively higher graduate education. * **or** One year of specialized experience equivalent to GL-7, applying law enforcement techniques, solving problems, leading initiatives, and collaborating effectively. * **or** A combination of specialized experience and graduate education beyond the first year.
  • **GS-11 (Starting Salary: $63,163):**
* Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education, or LL.M. * **or** One year of specialized experience equivalent to GL-9, including planning/conducting complex criminal investigations, managing projects, conducting interviews/arrests, and leveraging networks. * **or** A combination of specialized experience and doctoral level education beyond the first year.
  • **Experience:** Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, will be credited.
  • *Hiring & Assessment Process:**
  • **Phase I:** National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Special Agent Entrance Exam (SAEE), Applicant Physical Abilities Test (APAT), Interview.
  • **Phase II:** Credit check, security interview, polygraph examination, drug screening, medical examination, and extensive background investigation for a Top Secret security clearance.
  • *Physical Requirements:**
  • Moderate to arduous physical exertion including walking, standing, and firearms use.
  • Ability to perform duties in inclement weather.
  • Requires manual dexterity and full range of motion in limbs for satisfactory performance.
  • *Other Conditions:**
  • Subject to a 2-year trial period to evaluate fitness and public interest advancement.
  • Strict adherence to U.S. Secret Service drug usage guidelines.
