Summary
Investigate complex criminal cases and perform protective duties as a federal Special Agent, requiring strong analytical and physical capabilities.

- *Key Responsibilities May Include:**
- Applying law enforcement, protective, or investigative techniques.
- Identifying problem areas and implementing effective solutions.
- Planning and conducting complex criminal investigations.

- Conducting interviews, interrogations, arrests, searches, and seizures.
- Managing projects, setting priorities, and allocating resources.
- Collaborating with internal and external partners.

- *Qualifications:**
- *GL-09 Level Requirements (Starting Salary: $54,945):**
- **Education:** Master's or equivalent graduate degree (e.g., LL.B., J.D.) or two full years of progressively higher graduate education in a related field.
- **Experience:** At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GL-7 level, such as applying law enforcement/protective/investigative techniques, problem-solving, taking team responsibility, leading groups, setting priorities, and external partnering.
- **Combination:** A mix of specialized experience and related graduate education beyond the first year of study.
- *GS-11 Level Requirements (Starting Salary: $63,163):**
- **Education:** Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education, OR LL.M.
- **Experience:** At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GL-9 level, such as planning/conducting complex criminal investigations, evidence gathering/analysis, interviews/interrogations, arrests, searches/seizures, taking team responsibility, leveraging networks, and managing complex projects.
- **Combination:** A mix of specialized experience and related graduate education beyond the first year of doctoral study.
- *General Requirements:**
- **Time-in-Grade:** Current/former federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to be eligible for promotion. Proof (SF-50) is required.
- **Experience Credit:** Paid and unpaid/volunteer experience, including National Service programs, will be credited.
- **Physical and Medical Standards:** Duties require moderate to arduous physical exertion, use of firearms, exposure to inclement weather, manual dexterity, and full functional use of limbs.

Applicants must successfully pass Phase 1 assessments to receive a Conditional Job Offer:
- **National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Special Agent Entrance Exam (SAEE)**
- **Applicant Physical Abilities Test (APAT):** Evaluates physical fitness through push-ups, sit-ups, Illinois Agility Run, and a 1.5-mile run, ensuring readiness for vigorous training and job tasks.
