Summary
Join the Secret Service as a Special Agent, conducting complex federal criminal investigations and preparing cases for prosecution.
The U.S. Secret Service seeks skilled Federal Investigators/Special Agents to conduct complex criminal investigations and protect national security. This role involves rigorous investigative work, intelligence gathering, and coordination with federal and international agencies.
- *Responsibilities (GS-12 Level):**
- Participate in planning and conducting investigative activities, including surveillance and informant development.
- Investigate organized crime and subversive groups.
- Gather information from diverse sources (electronic devices, informants, citizens, victims, federal agencies).
- Prepare and present cases for prosecution in Federal courts.
- *Responsibilities (GS-13 Level):**
- Investigate violations related to fraudulent credit/debit cards, access devices, computer/telecommunications equipment, and Federal government identification.
- Coordinate investigations with federal jurisdictions and assist foreign officials in international cases.
- Analyze and evaluate Federal programs, projects, and operations, providing recommendations on effectiveness.
- *Qualifications:**
- **GS-12:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in federal service, as outlined above.
- **GS-13:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in federal service, as outlined above.
- *Selection Process (Phases I & II):**
- NCIC Structured Interview
- Security Interview
- Polygraph Examination
- Drug Screening (adherence to strict drug policy required)
- Medical Examination
- Top-Secret Security Clearance background investigation (reciprocity granted)
- Physical Fitness and Firearms Assessment (does not impact employment)
- *General Medical Requirements:**
- Ability to perform moderate to arduous physical exertion, including walking, standing, and firearm use.
- Manual dexterity and free motion of joints (fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips, knees).
- Sufficient function of arms, hands, legs, and feet to perform duties satisfactorily.
- Exposure to inclement weather.
- *Additional Information:**
- Applicants must meet qualification requirements by the closing date.
- Disclosure required for current/former political appointees within the last 5 years.
