Summary

Join DTRA as a Security Specialist, protecting research and technology through policy interpretation, training, and risk assessment.

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) is seeking a Security Specialist (R&T Program Protection) to join our team. This role supports the Research and Technology (R&T) Protection Program by ensuring robust security measures.

  • *Key Responsibilities (GS-12 level; GS-11 will assist with these duties):**
  • Interpret and apply DoD and Federal security regulations, policies, and laws to implement, monitor, and assess security support for R&T programs.
  • Analyze program protection practices, counterintelligence activities, operations security (OpSec), intelligence, planning, and technology developments.
  • Develop, maintain, and update security and R&T Program records, recommending best security practices.
  • Design and deliver security training and briefings for diverse audiences.
  • Prepare comprehensive written reports and assessments for key decision-makers.
  • *Qualifications:**
  • *For GS-12:**
  • One year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent in the Federal service, military, or private sector.
  • Expert communication skills (verbal and written) to articulate program protection policies and enable informed, risk-based project/program decisions.
  • *For GS-11:**
  • One year of specialized experience at the GS-09 level or equivalent in the Federal service, military, or private sector, assisting with the duties listed above.
  • **or** A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education in a relevant field.
  • **or** A combination of education and experience as described above.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills to support program protection policies and procedures.
  • *General Requirements:**
  • Specialized experience includes work in DoD/Federal security regulations, program protection, counterintelligence, OpSec, intelligence, planning, or technology development.
  • Volunteer experience (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) counts towards qualifying experience.
  • **Note: Transcripts are required if qualifying based on education.**
