Job Description

Summary

Provide accurate information and resolve public inquiries on U.S. Customs and Border Protection policies and programs.

Join U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to provide critical information and support to the public. This role involves managing information resources, responding to inquiries, and addressing complex policy and program questions related to trade, travel, and customs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update resource files on CBP activities, policies, and program changes.
  • Disseminate accurate and timely information to the public.
  • Respond to and resolve inquiries, complaints, and information requests received via phone, website, and email.
  • Provide alternative solutions and options for complex problems.
  • For GS-11, handle sensitive and intricate inquiries (e.g., trade, tariffs, quotas, FOIA requests).
  • For GS-11, identify and report trends in public feedback and potential misinformation.

Qualifications:

GS-09 Level:

  • **Experience:** One year of specialized experience (equivalent to GS-07) in information dissemination, inquiry resolution, and resource file management.
  • **Education:** Master's degree, two full years of graduate education (36 semester/54 quarter hours), a J.D., or an LL.B. may substitute for experience.

GS-11 Level:

  • **Experience:** One year of specialized experience (equivalent to GS-09) handling complex inquiries, analyzing trends, and managing extensive information resources.
  • **Education:** Ph.D., equivalent doctoral degree, three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education (54 semester/81 quarter hours), or an LL.M. (preferably in business, international business, or a related field) may substitute for experience.

General Requirements:

  • **Combined Qualifications:** Education and experience can be combined to meet qualification requirements.
  • **Volunteer Experience:** Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, is recognized.
  • **Federal Employment Notes:** Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements (if applicable), complete a thorough background investigation by CBP, meet a U.S. residency requirement (3 of last 5 years, with potential waivers), and serve a one-year probationary period (if new to federal service).
