Job Description

Summary

Elite K9 Handler position for experienced military/law enforcement professionals, requiring top-tier physical fitness and security clearance.

Join the Secret Service as a K9 Handler, a demanding federal role requiring specialized K9 experience, exceptional physical fitness, and the ability to secure a Top-Secret Clearance.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Handle and work with K9s for detection purposes (e.g., explosives, narcotics).
  • Perform duties requiring significant physical exertion, including working with firearms and in varied environmental conditions.
  • Ensure public safety under demanding circumstances.
  • *Minimum Qualifications:**
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Age 20 at application, 21 at time of appointment.
  • **Specialized K9 Experience (ONE of the following):**
* **Military:** Current or former Military Working Dog handler with explosive detection experience and successful completion of requisite K9 training. * **Law Enforcement:** Certified K9 handler/trainer (state, local, or federal) with experience in explosive or narcotics detection.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Security Clearance.
  • *Physical & Medical Requirements:**
  • Pass the Applicant Physical Abilities Test (APAT) comprising push-ups, sit-ups, Illinois Agility Run, and a 1.5-mile run.
  • Hearing loss must not exceed 25 decibels in either ear at specified frequencies.
  • Possess strong manual dexterity, full range of motion, and excellent emotional/mental stability.
  • Meet general medical requirements for arduous physical exertion and duty performance.
  • *Application & Employment Process:**
  • Successful completion of a multi-phase assessment including: entrance examination, APAT, interviews, credit check, security interview, polygraph, drug screening, and a comprehensive background investigation.
  • A 2-year trial period is a condition of employment.
  • Strict adherence to U.S. Secret Service drug policy.
