  • *Compensation & Trial Period:**
  • Starting salary at the LE-01 grade level is $75,134.00.
  • A 2-year trial period is required, during which your fitness and commitment to public interest will be evaluated.
  • *Minimum Requirements:**
  • Possess a high school diploma or certificate of equivalency.
  • Be at least 20 years old at the time of application and 21 at the time of appointment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Clearance.
  • Must use official name on application as it appears on government identification.
  • All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, will be credited.
  • *Physical & Medical Standards:**
  • **Vision:**
* Uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. * Corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye. * Corrective eye surgeries (LASIK, PRK, ALK, RK) are acceptable, subject to specific visual tests and post-surgery waiting periods.
  • **Hearing:**
* Hearing loss must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear across 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. * Must be able to hear a whispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without a hearing aid.
  • **General Health:**
* Duties require moderate to arduous physical exertion, including walking, standing, firearm use, and exposure to inclement weather. * Requires manual dexterity and comparatively free motion of major joints. * Arms, hands, legs, and feet must function sufficiently to perform duties. * Applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. * Any condition hindering full performance or posing a hazard to self/others, or chronic diseases impairing performance, may be disqualifying.

  • *Application & Assessment Process:**
Applicants must successfully complete both Phase I and Phase II to be considered for employment.

  • **Phase I:**
* National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Check * Uniformed Division Entrance Examination (UDEE) * Applicant Physical Abilities Test (APAT) * Special Agent and Uniformed Division Pre-Employment Review * Interview
  • **Phase II:**
* Credit Check * Security Interview * Polygraph Examination * Medical Examination * Background Investigation (culminating in a Top-Secret Security Clearance)

  • *Applicant Physical Abilities Test (APAT):**

The APAT is a physical fitness assessment consisting of four components:

  • Push-ups
  • Sit-ups
  • Illinois Agility Run
  • 1.5 Mile Run
This test measures general physical fitness, serving as an indicator of an applicant's ability to safely complete a vigorous physical training program and perform job-related physical tasks.
