Summary
Manage health information systems, medical records, and data compliance to ensure secure and efficient operations.
We are seeking an experienced Health Information Management Specialist to oversee comprehensive medical records and health information systems within our organization. This pivotal role involves strategic program development, operational oversight, and ensuring strict compliance with all health data regulations.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Plan, develop, and direct medical records programs, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and accreditation standards.
- Evaluate and enhance medical records services, including data organization and indexing, implementing necessary revisions.
- Collaborate with medical and administrative staff to assess the quality and appropriateness of patient and healthcare services.
- Design, manage, and evaluate information systems for accurate data collection, analysis, monitoring, reporting, and maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for processing legal medical documents, insurance requests, and correspondence in compliance with federal, state, and local statutes.
- Lead project management and process improvement initiatives to resolve complex technical challenges in health information management.
- Provide expert advice to management and staff on medical record documentation, health information services, and computerized patient records, based on current statutes and standards.
- Oversee the full Electronic Medical/Health Records (EMR/EHR) lifecycle, including planning, testing, assessment, implementation, integration, and recommending policy changes.
- Serve as the legal health record custodian, handling subpoenas, certifying records, and collaborating with government agencies on interoperability.
- *Qualifications:**
- *Education:**
- Successful completion of an approved medical records technician training program (equates to 1 year general experience).
- *or* Bachelor's degree in a Medical Records Administration program (AHIMA and CAHEA accredited) for GS-5 equivalent positions.
- *or* Bachelor's degree (any field) plus 1 year in an AHIMA and CAHEA accredited Medical Records Administration program for GS-7 equivalent positions.
- *Specialized Experience (Required for positions above GS-05 equivalent):**
- Minimum of one year of specialized experience performing duties equivalent to the next lower federal grade level. This experience must demonstrate:
