Summary

Seeking a Materials Engineer to provide technical guidance, conduct experiments, and manage projects, requiring a degree and specialized experience.

Join our team as a Materials Engineer (GS-12) to apply your expertise in engineering design, material science, and project management. This role offers a starting salary of $101,401.00.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Provide expert technical guidance and recommendations for various engineering designs.
  • Conduct experiments to thoroughly test and enhance material properties.
  • Assist in the comprehensive planning, coordination, and execution of materials engineering projects, including defining scope, goals, and deliverables.
  • *Minimum Qualifications (GS-12):**

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level, performing duties such as:

  • Offering technical guidance and recommendations in engineering designs.
  • Conducting experiments to test and improve material properties.
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of materials engineering projects.
  • *Basic Requirements (Select one option below):**
  • *Option A: Education**
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • or a program including differential and integral calculus and advanced courses in five of seven specified engineering science areas (e.g., statics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical fields).
  • *Option B: Combination of Education and Experience**

College-level education, training, and/or technical experience demonstrating a thorough knowledge of physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, plus a practical understanding of engineering sciences. This must be evidenced by one of the following:

  • Current professional registration or licensure (Engineer Intern, Engineer in Training, or Professional Engineer).
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
  • Completion of at least 60 semester hours in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, meeting the criteria in Option A.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field (e.g., engineering technology, physics, computer science) PLUS at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under supervision.
  • *Federal Applicant Requirements:**
  • Current or former Federal employees must meet 'time-in-grade' requirements (52 weeks at the next lower grade) and provide SF-50(s) as proof of status and eligibility.
