Summary
CBP seeks Marine Interdiction Agents for maritime law enforcement, requiring a valid Merchant Mariner Credential and specialized experience.
Join as a Marine Interdiction Agent with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), enforcing federal maritime laws. This role involves comprehensive law enforcement duties and advanced interdiction operations.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Commanding and controlling law enforcement scenes, including conducting searches, making arrests, and processing evidence.
- Collecting, analyzing, and disseminating tactical and strategic intelligence for maritime and aviation enforcement.
- Writing comprehensive arrest, criminal, and incident reports.
- Assisting attorneys in court proceedings and testifying as a law enforcement officer.
- Applying constitutional law and CBP regulations in various criminal situations.
- **(GS-13 specific):** Leading multi-agency responses to suspect vessel intercepts, commanding high-speed vessels, and coordinating with aircraft/land units.
- **(GS-13 specific):** Establishing facts and securing evidence through public and private records.
- **(GS-13 specific):** Demonstrating mastery of constitutional/statutory laws, investigative procedures, and specialized interdiction techniques.
- *Minimum Qualifications:**
- **Mandatory:** Valid U.S. Coast Guard Issued Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) at the time of application. Qualifying capacities include Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV), Mate of 200 gross tons or greater, Chief Mate, Second Mate, Third Mate Unlimited Oceans, or Master of 25 GRT or greater.
- **Specialized Experience (GS-12):** One year equivalent to GS-11, performing duties like independent law enforcement scene control, intelligence analysis, and report writing.
- **Specialized Experience (GS-13):** One year equivalent to GS-12, performing duties like leading multi-agency interdiction operations and demonstrating mastery of law enforcement techniques.
- *Additional Requirements:**
- **Background Investigation:** Thorough background check required, including questions on criminal convictions and drug use.
- **Polygraph Examination:** Required for non-current CBP law enforcement employees; reciprocity or veteran waiver may apply.
- **Residency:** Must have physically resided in the U.S. or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years (exceptions available).
- **Probationary Period:** One-year probationary period applies for new federal employees.
