Lead and oversee major agency programs at the GS-13 level, requiring specialized experience and a federal background investigation.

Join U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as a GS-13 Program Specialist, contributing to critical agency-wide programs and initiatives.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Direct, implement, coordinate, and oversee major agency mission or administrative programs.
  • Lead or participate in special studies and task forces, providing essential support to headquarters and field offices.
  • Coordinate office support activities and offer analytical guidance on problem definition, planning, and policy.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor sophisticated management information systems for strategic planning.
  • Plan, develop, and coordinate planning management through briefings, presentations, and conferences for executive leadership.
  • *Requirements:**
  • **Experience:** Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level, performing duties as outlined above. This includes program direction, leading studies, analytical support, system development, and executive communication. *Your resume must explicitly detail how you meet this requirement.*
  • **Federal Service:** Meet all qualification requirements, including Time in Grade (52 weeks at GS-12 or equivalent by 09/12/2025) for current federal employees. New federal employees serve a one-year probationary period.
  • **Background Investigation:** Successfully pass a thorough background investigation required for this federal law enforcement agency role. Inquiries include felony convictions, current charges, and illegal drug use/involvement with controlled substances.
  • **Residency:** For applicants not currently employed by CBP, you must have physically resided in the U.S. or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years. Exceptions may apply for U.S. government service or sponsored programs.
  • *Additional Information:**
  • Qualifying experience includes both paid and unpaid (volunteer) work.
  • Employment offers made to current or former political appointees require OPM authorization.
  • CTAP eligibles must be rated at a minimum score of 85 and submit all supporting documents.
