Summary

Oversee federal forfeiture actions, ensure legal compliance, and conduct advanced research and reporting for the DEA.

Join the DEA in a specialized legal role, focusing on federal forfeiture actions. This position ensures compliance with legal requirements, provides expert advice, and involves detailed analysis and reporting. Opportunities are available at both GS-11 and GS-12 levels, with increasing complexity and responsibilities at the higher grade.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • **Legal Compliance & Review:** Determine identity for legal notices, review notices, petitions, claims, and legal proceedings to ensure compliance and technical accuracy.
  • **Legal Guidance:** Provide advice and assistance on well-precedented legal or training issues.
  • **Research & Analysis (GS-12 Specific):** Perform extensive research and detailed analysis of investigative and seizure documentation for federal forfeiture actions.
  • **Reporting (GS-12 Specific):** Prepare weekly, monthly, and final forfeiture status reports.
  • *Qualifications:**
  • **Specialized Experience:**
* **GS-11:** At least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-09 level, demonstrating knowledge of legal codes, court procedures, government regulations, and legal practices, coupled with experience in legal notice processing, transaction review, and routine advice. * **GS-12:** At least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 level, including all GS-11 specialized experience, plus extensive research and analysis of forfeiture documentation and report preparation. * *Note:* Qualifying experience includes paid and volunteer work.
  • **Education (GS-11 Alternative Only):**
* A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full academic years of graduate-level education, or an LL.M. (if related).
  • **Combination:** A combination of qualifying education and experience may be accepted.
  • **General Requirements:**
* Meet DEA Employment Eligibility. * Satisfy Time-In-Grade requirements by the closing date. * Official transcripts are required if qualifying based on education.
