Advanced Historian/Researcher sought for in-depth historical research, primary source analysis, and findings presentation, requiring specialized experience.

## Research Historian / Analyst (GS-14/15)

We are seeking highly qualified Research Historians/Analysts to conduct in-depth historical research, analyze primary source materials, and present findings to diverse audiences. This role involves meticulous documentation and working with foreign archives. Applicants can apply for either the GS-14 or GS-15 level, each with specific experience requirements.

### Key Responsibilities & Requirements:

  • **Advanced Research & Analysis:**
* Conduct extensive research, including identifying relevant materials in foreign archives. * Analyze primary source materials to develop original research findings and conclusions. * Organize, track, and account for documents and sources in large-scale research projects. * Detail research progress, outlining future investigative steps. * Explain complex research findings clearly for varying audiences. * Participate in peer reviews (GS-15). * Prepare high-level research products, such as dissertations or published peer-reviewed articles (GS-15).

### Basic Qualification (Must meet one of the following):

  • **Option A:** A degree in History or a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in History.
  • **Option B:** A combination of education and experience – courses equivalent to a major in History (or related field with 18+ semester hours in History), plus appropriate professional experience or additional education.
  • *Note: Transcripts are required for both options.*
### Specialized Experience (Required in addition to Basic Qualification):

#### For GS-14 Level (1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-13):

  • Conducting research by identifying relevant materials in foreign archives.
  • Detailing progress of investigative research and outlining next steps.
  • Explaining research findings effectively to diverse audiences.
#### For GS-15 Level (1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-14):

  • Participating in peer reviews of research or publications.
  • Analyzing primary source materials to prepare substantial original research (e.g., doctoral dissertation, published peer-reviewed article).
  • Organizing, tracking, and accounting for documents and sources within large-scale research projects.
### Highly Desired Skills:

  • **Foreign Language Proficiency:** Demonstrated knowledge of vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and composition in a foreign language (other than English) to support research tasks.
  • **Geographic Expertise:** Experience or knowledge in regions such as Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, or the Middle East.
