Summary
Experienced Health Physicist sought to manage radiation safety programs, administer compliance, and develop new policies.
We are seeking a highly skilled Health Physicist (GS-14) to manage and advance our comprehensive radiation safety programs. This role involves critical program administration, policy development, and technical leadership in radioactive materials management and compliance.
- *Core Responsibilities & Specialized Experience (GS-14 Level):**
To qualify at the GS-14 level, candidates must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level, demonstrating expertise in:
- Administering programs for radioactive materials and ionizing radiation sources, ensuring compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) or Agreement State licenses.
- Developing and overseeing comprehensive radiation safety programs, including training, dosimetry, handling, use, storage, compliance surveys, inventory control, operating and emergency procedures, and shipping of special nuclear materials (SNM).
- Leading quality assurance programs specifically for shipping special nuclear materials in adherence to 10 CFR 71.
- Creating new methods, programs, and policies to guarantee compliance with health physics and radiation safety regulations.
- Providing expert technical assistance and constructive feedback on radiation safety policy development both internally and externally.
- Offering technical direction, establishing radiation safety program goals, defining objectives and priorities, and reviewing team outputs prior to management presentation.
- *Basic Occupational Requirements (IOR):**
In addition to the GS-14 specialized experience, candidates must meet one of the following:
- **A. Degree:** A degree in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus.
- **B. Combination:** A combination of education (as described in A) and appropriate experience or other relevant education.
- **C. Certification:** Certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, combined with relevant experience and education providing an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in A.
- Volunteer work (e.g., National Service programs) is recognized and credited as qualifying experience.*
