Job Description
Summary
Seeking active bar members with an ABA-accredited law degree for a federal role requiring a comprehensive background investigation.
We are seeking qualified applicants for positions requiring a strong legal background within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
- *Required Qualifications:**
- Graduate of an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited School of Law.
- Active member in good standing of the bar of a U.S. state, territory, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.
- Must provide official law school transcripts and proof of bar admittance/good standing.
- *General Requirements:**
- **Experience:** Both paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, professional, philanthropic), will be credited towards qualifications.
- **Background Investigation:** As a federal law enforcement agency, CBP conducts thorough background investigations. This includes inquiries into felony convictions/charges, illegal drug use, and non-prescribed controlled substance use (including experimentation, possession, sale, etc.).
- **Residency:** Applicants not currently employed by CBP must have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years. Exceptions may apply for those working for the U.S. Government (civilian or military), accompanying dependents, participating in U.S. affiliated study abroad programs, or supporting the U.S. government as a contractor, intern, consultant, or volunteer.
- **Political Appointee Disclosure:** You must disclose if you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political appointee (Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES, or Presidential Appointee) in the Executive Branch to the Human Resources Office. Employment offers for such individuals require Office of Personnel Management (OPM) authorization.
- **Qualification Deadline:** All qualification requirements, including education and experience, must be met by November 19, 2025.
