Summary
U.S. Customs and Border Protection seeks an Attorney with an ABA-accredited law degree and active bar membership.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking an Attorney to join its legal team. This position requires a strong legal background and commitment to public service within a federal law enforcement agency.
- *Key Requirements:**
- **Education:** Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school.
- **Bar Membership:** Active member in good standing of the bar of a U.S. state, territory, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
- **Experience:** All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, is considered.
- **Qualification Deadline:** Must meet all requirements by November 17, 2025.
- *Specialized Education (GS-11 Level for Recent Graduates):**
Recent law school graduates may be considered for a GS-11 level if they meet one of the following:
- Ranked in the top 1/3 of their graduating class.
- Participated on the school's official Law Review.
- Won a moot court competition.
- Member of a moot court team representing their law school in inter-law school competition.
- *Important Information for Applicants:**
- **Pending Bar Admission:** A 14-month interim appointment may be made pending admission to the bar.
- **Required Documentation:** Selectee must provide proof of bar admittance and good standing, along with an official law school transcript.
- **Background Investigation:** All applicants are subject to a thorough background investigation, common for federal law enforcement agencies. This includes questions regarding felony convictions, illegal drug use, and non-prescribed controlled substances.
- **Residency Requirement:** Applicants not currently employed by CBP must have physically resided in the U.S. or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years. Exceptions may be granted for those working for the U.S. government (civilian/military), their dependents, participants in U.S.-sponsored study abroad programs, or contractors supporting the U.S. government.
- **Political Appointee Disclosure:** Current or former (within the last 5 years) Executive Branch political appointees must disclose this information.
