Direct Policy, Advocacy, and Communications to champion refugee and immigrant rights through strategic initiatives and public outreach.
The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) is an international non-profit dedicated to defending the rights and addressing the needs of refugees, asylum seekers, and displaced persons. We advocate for humanitarian policies and provide vital services. **Position:** Director, Policy and Advocacy and Communications **Location:** In-person, Arlington, VA **Key Responsibilities:** * Lead and manage the Policy and Advocacy and Communications departments, including supervising staff and interns. * Define organizational policy and advocacy direction, setting goals, deliverables, and timelines. * Conduct fieldwork, research, and write publications highlighting refugee, displaced person, and migrant issues. * Maintain partnerships with international advocacy organizations and UN agencies. * Direct content creation and distribution across various platforms: publications, press releases, op-eds, web content, and annual reports. * Guide policy analysts in presenting research and recommendations for public briefings, media outlets, and issue papers. * Establish and cultivate relationships with journalists, managing media databases, coordinating interviews, and responding to inquiries. * Oversee social media platforms and USCRI website content. * Collaborate with senior staff to enhance agency reputation and coordinate publicity events. **Qualifications:** * Master’s degree required, preferably in International Relations, Political Science, Journalism, History, or Social Sciences. * Minimum 7 years of supervisory and management experience in non-profit advocacy or international humanitarian sectors. * Minimum 10 years of professional experience in immigration, human rights, or related fields, including media and communications work. * In-depth knowledge of refugee, unaccompanied children, trafficking, asylum, and/or immigration issues. * Excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills across all media platforms. * Strong networking, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills, fostering multicultural teamwork. * Self-starter with sound judgment, integrity, creativity, and dedication to human rights. * Excellent time-management, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
