Summary

Provide comprehensive communications and archives support for Howard University's real estate development projects within the REDCAM department.

Howard University's Real Estate Development & Capital Asset Management (REDCAM) department seeks a **Communications & Archives Specialist** to support the Executive Director for Campus Planning, Architecture & Development.

This role is crucial for managing communications and archiving for REDCAM's extensive real estate development portfolio, ensuring high-quality project outcomes, detailed documentation, and effective stakeholder engagement.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • **Communications Management:**
* Plan, implement, and oversee all internal and external communications, including website content, press releases, social media, publications, multimedia, and media relations. * Develop and execute communication strategies, content creation, and marketing tools. * Coordinate press conferences, town halls, and stakeholder events. * Manage external communication vendors and collaborate with university marketing teams.
  • **Archives & Documentation:**
* Manage documentation for ongoing and completed projects, including cataloging, digitizing, and contextualizing materials. * Develop narratives, maintain a weekly progress ledger, and conduct historic/contextual research. * Develop and maintain comprehensive REDCAM archives and cataloging systems.
  • **Project Support & Administration:**
* Provide administrative and technical assistance to REDCAM staff and stakeholders. * Manage contracts and contractors for communications and archives projects, ensuring budget adherence and timely delivery. * Track project costs, manage budgets, and prepare detailed reports, proposals, and statistical data.

  • *Required Qualifications:**
  • **Education:** Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Media, Journalism, or a related field.
  • **Experience:** Minimum of 5 years in similar communications and archives-focused roles.
  • **Desired:** Familiarity with urban planning, architecture, design, history, and real estate development.
  • *Core Competencies & Skills:**
  • **Technical:** Web design, copywriting/editing, social media management, grant writing, video/multimedia production, MS Office, photo/video-editing software.
  • **Communication:** Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills; strong interpersonal and media relations abilities.
  • **Organizational:** Outstanding planning and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • **Project Management:** Solid understanding of project management principles, especially for complex capital projects (budget, schedule, quality).
  • **Analytical:** Creative problem-solving, research, and data collection skills; ability to interpret blueprints.
  • *Compensation:**
  • Salary Range: $100,000 - $110,000 annually.
