Job Description
Summary
Enforce immigration laws by apprehending, investigating, and deporting individuals in a high-risk, physically demanding law enforcement role.
This challenging law enforcement position involves enforcing immigration laws and performing physically demanding duties in high-risk environments. The role requires considerable physical exertion, irregular hours, and the ability to carry a firearm.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Apprehend individuals violating immigration or related laws.
- Prepare detailed investigative reports to support prosecution or administrative actions.
- Perform law enforcement support duties, including taking fingerprints, photographs, and conducting routine interviews.
- Respond to diverse immigration inquiries and complaints using various law enforcement methods (observation, interviews, data analysis).
- Document, transport, deport, and escort criminal and non-criminal aliens under guidance.
- Carry and maintain proficiency with a firearm; compliance with federal firearm regulations is mandatory.
- *Minimum Requirements (One of the following):**
- **Experience:** One year of specialized experience at the GS-7 level, performing duties such as assisting with immigration law apprehensions, preparing investigative reports, performing law enforcement support, conducting interviews, and handling alien transport/deportation.
- **Education:** Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, two full years of graduate education, or a J.D./L.L.B. degree from an accredited institution.
- **Combination:** An equivalent combination of successfully completed education and specialized experience.
- *Additional Requirements:**
- **Training:** Must have successfully completed a specific basic immigration law enforcement training program (e.g., ICE_BIETP, IOBTC, USBPI, CBP OBT, etc.). Re-training may be required if a significant break (3+ years) from previous relevant service.
- **Post-Hire Training:** Selectees new to the Deportation Officer role must complete the Deportation Officer Transition Program (DOTP) after entrance on duty.
- **Physical & Work Conditions:** Position requires strenuous physical exertion (sitting, standing, walking, crawling), exposure to dangerous situations, and willingness to work long, irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
