Summary
Enforce immigration laws as a Deportation Officer, conducting investigations, apprehensions, and critical enforcement operations under demanding conditions.
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient individual to join our team as a Deportation Officer. This role involves enforcing immigration laws, conducting investigations, and managing the apprehension and removal of individuals. You will operate in dynamic, high-risk environments, requiring both physical stamina and strong professional judgment.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Assist in the apprehension of individuals violating immigration or related laws.
- Prepare accurate and detailed investigative reports for potential prosecution or administrative action.
- Perform essential law enforcement support duties, including fingerprinting, photography, and routine interviews.
- Utilize various law enforcement techniques (observation, interviews, document inspection, data analysis) to respond to immigration inquiries and complaints.
- Document, transport, deport, and/or escort criminal and non-criminal aliens under supervision.
- *Required Qualifications (GS-9 Grade Level):**
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria by the closing date:
- **Experience:** One year of specialized experience at the GS-7 grade level (or equivalent) performing duties such as immigration enforcement support, investigative reporting, conducting interviews, and managing alien transport/escort.
- **Education:** A Master's or equivalent graduate degree (e.g., L.L.B./J.D.), or two academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education from an accredited institution.
- **Combination:** A mix of successfully completed graduate-level education beyond the first full year and specialized experience that collectively meets 100% of the requirements.

- *Mandatory Training & Certifications:**
- **Basic Immigration Law Enforcement Training:** Must have successfully completed one of several approved basic immigration law enforcement training programs (e.g., ICE_BIETP, ICE_D, IOBTC, USBPI, OBT, etc.). If there has been a significant break of three or more years from a position requiring this training, re-attendance and successful completion of a new course is required. Failure to complete results in removal from the position.
- **Deportation Officer Transition Program (DOTP):** New Deportation Officers are required to complete this six-week program post-employment. Successful completion is mandatory.
- **Firearms Requirement:** Must be able to carry a firearm and maintain proficiency. Successful completion of the firearms component of an approved Criminal Investigation Training Program is required. Individuals convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are disqualified from possessing a firearm.

- Volunteer experience through National Service programs or other organizations counts towards qualifying experience.
- Selectees are responsible for expenses to the initial duty location; training travel expenses will be covered by the Agency.
