Job Description

Summary

Protect U.S. borders as a Customs and Border Protection Officer, enforcing laws and conducting inspections at ports of entry.

Join us as a Customs and Border Protection Officer (CBPO) to safeguard U.S. borders and enforce federal laws at ports of entry.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Conduct physical inspections of individuals, documents, and goods to detect criminal activity, fraud, and illegal operations.
  • Utilize observational techniques, evaluate facts, and apply Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
  • Make enforcement determinations that may lead to arrests, property seizures, fines, and/or penalties.
  • Perform duties at borders, seaports, airports, or other ports of entry.
  • *Qualifications:**
  • *GS-5 Grade Level:**
  • **Experience:** 3 years of general experience (1 year at GS-4 equivalent), demonstrating the ability to interact with people and apply factual information.
  • **Education:** A conferred bachelor's degree (any field) from an accredited institution.
  • **Combination:** A mix of qualifying general experience and college education.
  • *GS-7 Grade Level:**
  • **Experience:** 1 year of specialized experience (equivalent to GS-6) performing physical inspections for criminal activity, applying laws, and making enforcement determinations.
  • **Education:** A conferred bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (e.g., GPA of 3.0 or higher, or honor society membership).
  • **Graduate Education:** Successful completion of one full year of graduate-level education from an accredited institution.
  • **Combination:** A mix of qualifying specialized experience and graduate-level education.
  • *GS-9 Grade Level:**
  • Candidates with previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify.
  • *General Requirements:**
  • Successful completion of a Tier 5 National Security background investigation.
  • Ability to wear an officially approved uniform and adhere to established grooming standards.
  • Credit will be given for qualifying national service, volunteer work, and CBP Explorer program experience. Applicants must describe duties in detail for full credit.
