Job Description
Seeking experienced GS-13/14 Criminal Investigators to conduct complex investigations combating illicit activities, requiring specialized experience and assessments.
This promotional opportunity is for current and former GS-13 and GS-14 ICE Criminal Investigators seeking a GS-14 position.
**About the Role:**
Join as a GS-14 Criminal Investigator, conducting complex investigations to combat illicit activities related to trade, travel, finance, and immigration. This role demands high levels of independence, responsibility, and collaboration with law enforcement partners on multi-jurisdictional and international inquiries.
**Key Responsibilities:**
* Conduct broad-range investigations and associated enforcement actions.
* Evaluate complex situations and make critical decisions.
* Present investigative findings and prepare legal documents.
* Contribute to investigations with increasing independence and authority.
* Collaborate with and influence law enforcement partners.
* Participate in interagency, multi-jurisdictional, and international investigations.
* Demonstrate flexibility across diverse investigative programs and assignments.
**Qualifications:**
* One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level (or equivalent) performing duties as outlined above.
* Certain positions may require additional screening, including a national security polygraph.
* Overseas assignments may be available, with various allowances and pre-deployment requirements.
**Application & Assessment Process (Anticipated Dates):**
1. **Phase I: Occupational Questionnaire & SA-14 Resume (Aug 12 - Aug 25, 2025)**
* Complete an Occupational Questionnaire.
* Submit a two-part SA-14 Resume (Investigative Experiences & Conventional Resume Information), limited to 10 total pages, adhering to HSI Career Center guidance.
2. **Phase II: Supervisory Situational Judgment Test (SSJT) (Sept 4 - Sept 11, 2025)**
* Online pass/fail assessment measuring leadership and interpersonal skills (2-hour limit).
* Candidates who passed a prior SA-14 SSJT may be exempt.
3. **Phase III: Investigative Experience Review (Oct 6 - Oct 10, 2025)**
* Centralized panel reviews and evaluates SA-14 Resumes based on breadth and depth of investigative experience.
* Candidates who passed in 2024 may have results reapplied if current resume meets requirements.
**Note for Non-Competitive Candidates:** Former GS-1811-14s must apply but are exempt from assessments. Former and current GS-14s in other job series must apply and complete all assessments.
**Additional Information:**
* Volunteer experience through National Service programs or other organizations is credited as qualifying experience.
* Opportunities available for persons with disabilities, veterans, Peace Corps, and VISTA volunteers for non-competitive appointment.
* Current or former political appointees must disclose their status.
