Summary
CBP seeks a GS-14 Criminal Investigator to develop and deliver training, mentor staff, and ensure professional readiness.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking a Senior Criminal Investigator (GS-14) to lead professional development and training initiatives within the agency. This role involves shaping the skills of criminal investigators through curriculum design, instruction, and mentorship.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Identify and assess employee development and training needs.
- Design and develop comprehensive curriculum and lesson plans to advance agency mission.
- Deliver engaging training and presentations to diverse audiences using various instructional methods.
- Mentor and support the professional growth of less experienced criminal investigators.
- Evaluate performance and provide constructive feedback on training effectiveness and development areas.
- *Required Qualifications:**
- **Experience:** 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level, performing duties as outlined in Key Responsibilities. Your resume must clearly detail how your experience meets these qualifications. All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, is credited.
- *Mandatory Pre-Employment Conditions:**
- **Background Investigation:** Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation, which includes inquiries into criminal history, drug use (illegal and non-prescribed controlled substances), and personal conduct.
- **Medical Screening:** Pass a medical and physical evaluation to ensure the ability to perform all job functions safely and efficiently.
- **Firearms Proficiency:** Required to carry a firearm and maintain proficiency. Applicants are ineligible if convicted of a felony, have outstanding warrants, unlawful drug use, certain restraining orders, or domestic violence convictions, among other disqualifiers.
- **Polygraph Examination:** Must pass a polygraph exam. Polygraph reciprocity for prior federal exams or waivers for certain veterans may apply.
- **Drug Testing:** Pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random testing post-hire.
- **Residency:** Non-CBP employees must have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates for at least 3 of the last 5 years. Exceptions may apply for U.S. government-related work or authorized study abroad.
- *Federal Employee Specifics:**
- **Time in Grade:** Current federal employees must meet 52 weeks at the GS-13 grade level (or equivalent) by 11/12/2025.
- **Political Appointees:** Disclosure is required for current or former political appointees in the Executive Branch (within the last 5 years).
