Summary
Lead national SRT programs, managing operations, resources, and critical law enforcement responses at the GS-13 level.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking a highly experienced professional for a GS-13 role to lead national programs and critical law enforcement operations. This position requires specialized experience in strategic planning, issue resolution, and operational leadership within a high-stakes federal environment.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Manage national-level Special Response Team (SRT) programs, including budgeting, operations, and personnel.
- Analyze and prepare sensitive internal reports on national SRT activities.
- Identify and resolve complex issues where no established policy exists.
- Lead and participate in critical law enforcement operations such as border violence response, counter-terrorism, high-risk arrests, dignitary protection, and special interdiction.
- Make recommendations for program improvement and manage all assigned resources effectively.
- *Requirements:**
- *Experience & Qualifications:**
- **GS-13 Level:** Possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level.
- **Specialized Experience:** Demonstrated experience in duties such as managing national programs, analyzing sensitive reports, resolving unique policy issues, leading critical law enforcement operations (e.g., border violence, counter-terrorism, high-risk arrests, dignitary protection, interdiction), recommending program improvements, and managing resources.
- **Resume Requirement:** Your resume must explicitly detail how you meet these experience requirements.
- Volunteer experience that builds relevant competencies, knowledge, and skills is considered qualifying.
- *Federal Service & Retirement:**
- This is a secondary position subject to special retirement provisions for Customs and Border Protection Officers (CBPO SRC).
- **Mandatory Prerequisite:** Must have permanently served in a primary CBPO SRC position (e.g., Customs Inspector, Immigration Inspector, Canine Enforcement Officer, or CBP Officer).
- **Conditions for Coverage:** Requires moving directly from a primary to a secondary position without a break in service, completing 3 years of service in a primary position, and continuous employment in a secondary position since leaving a rigorous role (if applicable).
- **Time in Grade (Federal Employees):** Current federal employees must have completed 52 weeks at the GS-12 level (or equivalent) by November 26, 2025.
- *Pre-employment Process & Standards:**
- **Background Investigation:** Successful completion of a thorough background investigation is mandatory, consistent with federal law enforcement agency standards. This includes inquiries into criminal convictions and illegal drug use.
- **Polygraph Examination:** Required for applicants not currently employed in a CBP law enforcement position. Polygraph reciprocity or waivers (for eligible veterans) may be considered.
- **Medical & Physical Standards:**
- **Residency Requirement:** Must have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years. Exceptions/waivers may be granted for specific reasons (e.g., U.S. government/military service, study abroad, government contracting).
