Safeguard U.S. borders as a CBP Officer, enforcing laws, conducting inspections, and utilizing intelligence for national security.
Join U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as an Officer, safeguarding U.S. borders by enforcing laws and regulations related to the entry of people and goods. This federal law enforcement position requires vigilance, integrity, and a commitment to national security.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct primary inspections to determine alienage, citizenship, and admissibility of individuals.
- Physically and visually examine cargo and conveyances for import/export compliance.
- Utilize law enforcement databases and tactical intelligence to identify high-risk travelers and contraband.
- Interpret and apply laws and regulations governing entry into the U.S.
- Develop and disseminate critical tactical information and intelligence.
- Collaborate with carriers, other agencies, and foreign entities on admissibility and compliance matters.
What We're Looking For (Requirements):
- Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, performing duties similar to those listed above.
- Age: Must be under 40 years old at the time of original appointment (before your 40th birthday). Exceptions apply for certain federal law enforcement service or Veterans' Preference eligible candidates.
- Residency: Physically resided in the U.S. or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years. Exceptions may apply (e.g., U.S. government/military service abroad, study abroad).
- Background Investigation: Successful completion of a thorough background investigation and polygraph examination.
- Medical/Physical: Successfully pass a medical screening and a pre-employment physical fitness test.

- Current and former federal employees may have specific Time in Grade and probationary period requirements.
