Summary
Customs and Border Protection Officer applies specialized expertise in border security, risk assessment, and intelligence analysis for lawful entry.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking a highly skilled individual for a specialized role focused on border security and trade compliance. This position requires in-depth knowledge and application of law enforcement techniques and regulations to safeguard national security and facilitate legitimate trade.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Apply comprehensive knowledge of program legislation, regulations, and investigative techniques.
- Perform risk assessments for travelers and shipments using behavioral and cultural analysis.
- Gather and analyze intelligence from various sources and databases.
- Review and analyze manifests, permits, and associated documents to determine the admissibility of merchandise or cargo.
- *Requirements:**
- **Experience:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, performing duties as outlined above.
- **Federal Employees:** Must have completed 52 weeks at the GS-12 grade level (or equivalent) by 11/19/2025.
- **Retirement Coverage:** Must have previously served permanently in a primary Customs and Border Protection Officer (CBPO) law enforcement position (e.g., Customs Inspector, Immigration Inspector, Canine Enforcement Officer, CBP Officer).
- *Pre-Employment Process:**
- **Background Investigation:** A thorough investigation is required, including inquiries into criminal convictions and illegal drug use.
- **Polygraph Examination:** May be required; polygraph reciprocity and waivers are possible for eligible candidates.
- **Medical & Physical Standards:** Successfully complete a medical screening and a Pre-employment Physical Fitness Test.
- **Probationary Period:** Current and former federal employees may be subject to a probationary period.
