Job Description

Summary

Protect U.S. borders as a GS-13 Customs and Border Protection Officer, performing risk assessment, intelligence analysis, and document review.

Join U.S. Customs and Border Protection as a GS-13 Officer, playing a critical role in national security. This position involves advanced inspection, investigation, and risk assessment at U.S. borders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform risk assessments for travelers and shipments utilizing behavioral, cultural, and analytical skills.
  • Gather and analyze information from intelligence reports and various databases.
  • Review and analyze manifests, permits, certificates, entries, invoices, and associated documents to determine merchandise or cargo admissibility.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of program legislation, regulations, and investigative techniques.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level, demonstrating expertise in border security risk assessment, intelligence analysis, and regulatory application.
* This experience includes applying program legislation, inspection techniques, behavioral analysis for risk assessment, and reviewing various import/export documents.
  • Federal Service: Current federal employees must meet Time-in-Grade requirements (52 weeks at the next lower grade) by 09/18/2025.
  • Law Enforcement Prerequisite: Mandatory prior experience in a primary/rigorous law enforcement or firefighting position, or equivalent non-federal experience.
* Eligibility for Secondary Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) retirement coverage requires specific prior primary LEO service (e.g., Customs Inspector, CBP Officer) and transfer conditions.
  • Security & Screening:
* Ability to pass a thorough background investigation, including inquiries into criminal history and controlled substance use. * May be required to pass a polygraph examination (waiver/reciprocity options available).
  • Other: May be subject to a probationary period and medical/physical standards.
