Job Description

Summary

Oversee border security operations, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance as a senior Customs and Border Protection Officer.

A critical role within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requiring leadership and expertise in border security operations, risk assessment, and compliance.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Apply extensive knowledge of program-related legislation, regulations, and investigative techniques.
  • Perform complex risk assessments for traveler and shipment release using behavioral and cultural analysis.
  • Develop, plan, and participate in tactical operations such as intensive boardings and blitzes.
  • Analyze commercial documents (invoices, bill of lading) to identify anomalies and ensure compliance.
  • Oversee data compilation, inspection logs, and prepare work accomplishment reports for inspection operations.
  • *Minimum Qualifications (GS-14):**
  • **Experience:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level, performing duties similar to those listed above. Your resume must explicitly detail how you meet this requirement.
  • **Federal Employees:** Current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the GS-13 (or equivalent) level by 11/26/2025.
  • *Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) Requirements:**
  • This position is subject to secondary CBPO Special Retirement Coverage.
  • **Mandatory Prerequisite:** Must have permanently served in a primary CBPO SRC position (e.g., Customs Inspector, Immigration Inspector, Canine Enforcement Officer, or CBP Officer).
  • *Pre-Employment Screening:**
  • **Thorough Background Investigation:** Required for all applicants; includes inquiries into criminal history and drug use.
  • **Polygraph Examination:** Generally required, with potential reciprocity or waiver options for eligible candidates or current CBP law enforcement.
  • **Medical Screening:** Successful completion of a medical screening process is mandatory.
  • **Physical Fitness Test:** Must successfully pass the Pre-employment Fitness Test.
  • **Probationary Period:** Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
  • **Political Appointee Disclosure:** Required for current or former political appointees within the last 5 years.
