Summary
Lead advanced border security operations, analyzing high-risk cargo/travelers and enforcing complex trade/immigration laws at a GS-14 level.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seeks a highly experienced officer for a GS-14 role. This position involves critical national security and law enforcement duties, requiring a strong background in border security operations and regulatory enforcement.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Analyze manifests, permits, and commercial documents to determine cargo/merchandise admissibility, assess risk, and identify potential violations.
- Plan and execute tactical enforcement operations, including intensive boardings and roving patrols.
- Manage comprehensive inspections of identity and travel documents for authenticity and validity.
- Utilize tactical intelligence and various databases to conduct record checks and identify high-risk travelers or cargo.
- Inspect conveyances and examine cargo destined for export from the United States.
- *Qualifications & Requirements:**
- **Experience:** Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level, performing duties similar to those listed above.
- **Special Retirement Coverage:** This is a secondary position under special retirement provisions for Customs and Border Protection Officers. Candidates must have moved directly from a primary position without a break in service, completed 3 years in a primary position, and maintained continuous secondary employment.
- **Prior Service:** Must have permanently served in a primary CBPO Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) position (e.g., Customs Inspector, Immigration Inspector, Canine Enforcement Officer, or CBP Officer).
- **Time in Grade (Federal Employees):** Must have served 52 weeks at the GS-13 level or equivalent.
- **Background Investigation:** Successful completion of a thorough federal background investigation.
- **Polygraph Examination:** Required for the position; reciprocity for prior federal polygraphs or veteran waivers may apply.
- **Physical Fitness Test:** Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical fitness test.
- **Residency:** Must have physically resided in the U.S. or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years (exceptions for specific government-related overseas service may be considered).
- **Political Appointee Disclosure:** Disclosure required if a current or former political appointee within the last 5 years.
